Which test is right for me?

Relentless Health delivers reliable and affordable PFAS testing with our home test kits supplied by our partner, SimpleLab. There are 3 different water tests to choose from:

PFAS Water Test

This is the standard water test that looks for the presence of 14 common PFAS compounds. It is ideal if you are not sure whether your water supply is contaminated.

GenX and PFAS water test

This test checks for a total of 25 compounds including GenX (sometimes described as a PFAS-alternative). We recommend this test if you know you live in a high PFAS area.

EPA 1633 PFAS water test

This test uses the most advanced EPA-approved test method to identify the presence of very low levels of PFAS. It tests for 40 different compounds. We recommend this for people needing a certification of PFAS levels in their water supply.

Why do you offer PFAS water testing?
‍PFAS are known as forever chemicals because they persist for so long in the environment. As a result, many water sources become contaminated with PFAS. This contamination is hard to remove during treatment. The upshot is that over 100M people in the US have high levels of PFAS in their drinking water, making it the main source of exposure for most people.

Who should get a PFAS water test?
You should get your water tested for PFAS if you are in one of the following groups believed to be at increased risk from PFAS exposure:

Expectant mothers or parents with young children
People with kidney or liver problems
People with high cholesterol, or other risk factors for cardiovascular disease
Older people who may be at risk of dementia
Anyone who has already suffered from cancer
Men who are concerned about impotence

You should also get your water tested if you live in an area identified as having high PFAS levels (see the EWG PFAS map).

Which test should I choose?
‍At present, we offer 3 different PFAS tests for drinking water. These are all based on different EPA standards. The appropriate test will depend on your circumstances.

PFAS Water Test. This is the best option if you are not sure whether you have any PFAS contamination in your water. It tests for the 14 most common types of PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS.
GenX and PFAS Water Test. This option adds a further 10 PFAS compounds and also tests for the so-called PFAS-replacement, GenX. This is recommended if you are sure you have PFAS and want to test thoroughly.
EPA 1633 PFAS Water Test. This is the most advanced test you can perform. It looks for 40 different compounds and can detect very low concentrations. It is only recommended if you want to get a formal report relating to the PFAS levels in your water supply (for instance, if you are in a dispute with your water company).

How quickly will I get my results?
‍In general, tests take about 10-15 business days to be processed in the lab. As soon as the test is complete, you will receive your results.

What should I do if my results show high levels of PFAS in the water supply?
Sadly, many of our customers will receive worrying results from their water test. If your test shows high levels of PFAS there’s a few steps we recommend you take.

Try to use an alternative source of water for cooking, drinking, brushing your teeth, preparing baby formula, etc. But be aware that studies have also found high levels of PFAS in bottled water.
Try fitting high performance water filters for your main water supply. These filters can remove many PFAS from your water supply and reduce your exposure. But you must make sure the filter is certified for PFAS removal.
Buy an at-home blood test for PFAS. We offer a 10% discount for anyone who has already bought a water test from us.
If your water comes from a utility company, the EPA advises "Contact your state environmental protection agency or health department and your local water utility to find out what actions they recommend."

The easy way to test your water
Our partner SimpleLab will ship your test kit to you within a couple of days of receiving the order. When the kit arrives, you just need to follow the instructions to collect your sample.

Prepare the kit: Lay out the kit ready to use and wash and dry your hands. It’s important to avoid contaminating the sample.
Find a faucet that is nearest to the supply: Make sure you collect the sample from a faucet nearest to where the water enters your building.
Collect your sample: Carefully collect your sample in the container and then seal it.
Mail the completed sample to our lab: Complete your ID label and attach it to the sample, seal in its pouch, and mail it back to the lab with the reply-paid mailer.

Once your results are ready you will be able to access them by logging into our app. You will see the following details:

A list of all PFAS compounds that were detected along with the levels identified
Details of where each compound is used and potential health effects
